Western Region Club Fly-Out
COPYRIGHT FIREFLY HOT AIR BALLOON TEAM 2008
We were drifting to the right and missed the glider field. Over a road and into the next stubble field but she kept drifting right. In the end, out of a large field we were being forced into one little corner. Bloody mindedness took over and we were going to land in that field come what may. We did a stand up so close to the hedge that it was obvious the envelope was going to fall along it. Mark jumped out with the crown line and held it off. Shane followed him and they both hauled the envelope well away from the hedge, brilliant and not deserved by the pilot.
The retrieve was with us within 5 mins but became stuck in some mud in the entrance. Wendy was following and pulled it clear with her vehicle (using my towrope – what a cheek).
The farmer called Will turned up and was so pleasant that after he had chatted up all the females in the group we gave him a bottle of whisky. He didn’t have a dog. Dave and Wendy had to dash back to Basingstoke – the rest of us returned to Randwick – parking the retrieve and went straight to the village pub. Very relaxing.
